Forward...

I had a great Thanksgiving with family, but now it's time to buckle back down and get back to editing "Alexios' Fate".

When I got the first round of edits back, it was suggested that it had too many elements for a novella. I should either remove all the Apollo scenes prior to the ending or expand on his part of the story. I could have shortened Alexios' story easily. That was in effect what the second incarnation of the story entailed. But my main beta reader felt that springing Apollo at the end as a real entity instead of a cultural concept would be too surprising for some readers.

I will admit that some of my favorite pieces of the story would have gotten the ax so I asked my editor what she would like to see expanded upon. She had several wonderful ideas and sparked a few ideas of my own. My story is growing and Alexios along with it. I'm glad that my editor made that suggestion. Alexios will be the better for it.

Goodreads Choice Awards

As some of you may already be aware, Damon Suede's Hot Head has been nominated for the Goodreads Choice Awards in the Romance category. Hot Head has made it to the semifinals. Damon's novel is the only m/m story in the running.

Earlier this year, his story was mentioned on Andy Cohan's Watch What Happens Live on BRAVO. To my knowledge that is the first time m/m fiction has been recognized on television.

Now the same author has a chance to bring m/m to the attention of a wider audience on a site dedicated to authors, books and their readers. While m/m will likely always be a niche genre, there are still a large number of readers who have never heard of m/m.

We have the opportunity to give the genre more standing.

I personally enjoyed this novel and had no trouble voting for Damon's book in both rounds. I would be very please to see Hot Head win the category.

Free Read on the Breathless Press Website

This is the photo that inspired Johnny Mile's "Learning to Samba" and my short story "Morning Star." "Morning Star" is based on something that my friend Mark once told me he had done. The basic premise really happened, but I had to fill in the details. Mark was just a little bit sketchy on those details--something about "fucking him through the floor."

I told him it would make a great story and if he didn't write it I would. As you can see, I did follow through on that threat. I've been working on expanding it off and on while working on other projects. One day I would like to see Mark's story completed. In the meantime, the short story is very erotic and I hope you enjoy it.

Now my m/m story is up on the Breathless Press website as a free read.
